The former Arsenal star has scored 11 goals in 13 starts since joining the Catalan giants in January, but has now fallen down the pecking order following the club’s £42.5m purchase of Robert Lewandowski and the need to take advantage of some players.

Barcelona have been the country that has spent the most summer in Europe despite the fact that the club is going through a torrid financial crisis and has a debt of more than one billion pounds sterling.

The Spanish outfit have managed to register most of their new signings but have yet to register defender Jules Kounde, who joined from Sevilla earlier this summer due to ongoing money issues.

One way to raise funds is by selling the current members of the squad, with Aubameyang being one of the favorites along with Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay to leave Spain this summer, despite only arriving in Barcelona in January.

The Blues are chasing Aubameyang to help the void left in attack with Romelu Lukaku rejoining Inter Milan on loan and Timo Werner returning to RB Leipzig for £25m.

Boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to re-link with the 33-year-old striker after developing a positive relationship at Borussia Dortmund and would like to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks at Chelsea.

In two years under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, Aubameyang scored 79 goals in 95 appearances and finished the second of those seasons as the Bundesliga’s top scorer.

The Gabon international scored 68 goals in 128 Premier League games during his time at Arsenal before things turned ugly and he was frozen out by Mikel Arteta.

However, Aubameyang is not believed to be actively seeking a Barcelona exit, having rediscovered his goalscoring touch since joining LaLiga.

His contract runs until 2025, including a release clause added for 2023, so his future remains in his own hands.

Chelsea have already signed Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Carney Chukwuemeka.

But Tuchel is keen to add more to his squad after also losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger on free transfers this summer along with Lukaku and Werner walking out the door.
