A water park where a “kind and intelligent” 11-year-old girl died has been prevented from reopening for health and safety reasons.

Liquid Leisure, near Datchet, must prove it has reduced the risk of drowning before it can welcome customers, The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead said.

Tragedy struck when Kyra Hill “didn’t go back up” on August 6, sparking panic.

An emergency team was called to the scene around 3:55 p.m., but she was not found until just after 5:10 p.m.

He later died at Wexham Park Hospital, with Thames Valley Police saying the case was being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. A file was being prepared for the coroner, officials added.

Liquid Leisure said the water assault course would remain closed “out of respect” for the girl’s family until the start of this week.

But, following a council health and safety investigation, it will remain closed until further notice.

A council spokesman said: “We have delivered a notice prohibiting all recreational activities associated with the lake until Liquid Leisure has satisfied the council that they have risk assessments adequate and sufficient to prevent or reduce the risk of drowning.”

“We would like to again express our deepest condolences to the girl’s family and friends.”

Kyra has been described by her schoolmates as someone who was “the best in all classes” and “liked to make people smile”.

It comes after a mother, 41, who witnessed the incident described a chaotic response when it became clear someone was missing.

“Not everyone was wearing life jackets” and there seemed to be a “lack of lifeguards and no plan on how to deal with such an incident,” he said.

In a statement last week, Liquid Leisure said: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to family, friends and everyone affected by this desperately tragic and disturbing incident.

“As Thames Valley Police are in the very early stages of the investigation it would be wrong for us to add further comments, but we will continue to fully support and assist them throughout the process.”
