The club have been unable to meet Rabiot’s salary demands after a wide deal was reached with Juventus over a £15m fee.

With just over two weeks to go in the transfer window, United are looking for other options in midfield, and Caicedo is in his sights.

Caicedo, whose contract at Brighton runs until the summer of 2025, also scored his first Premier League goal against United in a shock 4-0 win at the Amex Stadium in May.
