Veterans get down passenger with box cutter on Frontier flight
A disturbance involving an erratic passenger with a weapon on board compelled a Frontier Airlines flight to divert to Atlanta. FOX 5 acquired an eyewitness account of the frightening scenario from a passenger that crew customers known as on to enable subdue the subject matter.
ATLANTIA – Veterans on a Frontier Airways flight from Cincinnati to Tampa had their instincts place to the test on Veterans Working day. TSA officers say a disturbance involving an erratic passenger with a weapon on board compelled the flight to divert to Atlanta Friday night.
“The girl arrived up and informed us that the particular person sitting down to the correct of her seat experienced a weapon and confirmed it to them and stated he was going to minimize many men and women on the flight,” passenger Larry Cumberbatch recalled.
Cumberbatch, a US Navy veteran, informed FOX 5 that crew associates tapped him and an additional former member of the army on board to assistance subdue the suspect if anything escalated. So, they came up with a plan for him to switch seats with the female who notified flight crew members about the threats.
“He has a weapon and I will not know what form of weapon it is … I reported, ‘hey I am gonna be sitting down listed here from now on’ and he stated ‘no the younger girl is gonna be sitting down there’ …he received like frantic, and he stated ‘oh no!’…and then he received up and went to the again of the airplane,” Cumberbatch described.
He informed FOX 5 as the aircraft landed in Atlanta and travellers commenced to get off, the suspect refused to deplane and then walked toward flight attendants with his fingers in his pockets. That is when a different man, with a qualifications in regulation enforcement, tackled him.
“He was involved his movements were being gonna go toward them and harm them…he just grabbed him, bear hugged him, and they fell,” Cumberbatch mentioned.

Atlanta Police arrested the suspect. Cellphone movie acquired by FOX 5 showed police using the person in custody. Cumberbatch and the other guys who assisted attained praise from their fellow travellers on board for their bravery. He explained it was turbulence they have been much more than outfitted to cope with.
“Serving in the armed forces, that’s what you do,” he reported.
Authorities have not identified the suspect or shared any other aspects at this time. A statement from TSA reads in section:
