British actor Tom Hardy is one of the leading actors in Hollywood who has amazed everyone with spectacular roles. Still, his workout routine, especially his stellar transformation for his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, has kept everyone very intrigued. Having to rapidly gain weight to take on the role of Bane is nothing short of a miraculous transformation.

How much did Tom Hardy earn for his role?
The actor gained over 30lbs, which is over 13kg for his role as Bane. He managed to gain so much weight in a short period of time, over 3 months, by adhering to circuit training that engaged the essential parts of his body where he could gain muscle.

What is the circuit training Tom took?
Tom opted for a workout that has seven, then five, and finally three reps:

The square: 10, seven, five, three reps

One has to position their hands so that they are ‘square’ with the shoulders. Keep your elbows tucked in as you move across your torso to fire up your triceps.

The rectangle: 10, seven, five, three reps

You have to separate your hands well so that your chest, arms and the floor form a rectangle.

The eagle: 10, seven, five, three reps

One has to put the hands wide apart, then spread the fingers while lowering the body and then turn them outwards.

The kong: 10, seven, five, three reps

Assume a push-up position on your knuckles with both arms at shoulder height. Then you have to lower your chest to the ground letting your elbows bend back like the legs of a grasshopper.

Tom also opted for an intense 4 days a week program that focused on his arms, chest, shoulders, back, legs and abs.

The actor had to look ‘as big as possible for his role as Bane. Tom had revealed that he was already overweight at the time, almost 90kg when they were shooting the movie.

What was Tom’s food intake during preparation for his role?


During his preparation for his role, Tom had to eat as much pizza as he could. On top of that, he was given a strict diet plan to follow that had a variety of supplements that he had to take. Some of them included:

Whey protein – This increases muscle growth as it repairs muscle and prevents severe soreness after exercise.

Creatine: This increases muscle mass and helps muscles recover faster while increasing muscle strength.

Pre-workout supplements: This improves the body’s performance levels and improves endurance.

Protein bars: This is a tasty source of protein that improves muscle mass.

Multivitamins: Taking care of the body’s nutrition is necessary. Therefore, additional multivitamins can improve this intake.

Tom also had to eat a variety of high-protein dishes that could bulk him up and be ready to take on the character of Bane in no time. These included sufficient amounts of rice, vegetables, fruit, chicken, tuna, milk, and oatmeal.
